Parade debut -- The Come & Take It float has been redesigned and redecorated and has already made its first parade. Mayron Cole designed and painted the background piece, adding sequins and glitter, foil twist and fringe for a fresh, new look to the entire float. She was assisted by her committee of Mary Jean Neuse, Cherry Hill, Vironell Kelley, Angela Zumwalt and by William Hill who did repair work. David Janota had welding done to brace the scene. The local public will be able to see the finished product in the Come & Take It Parade on Saturday, Oct. 1. This year's Come & Take It T-shirt will feature the float's centerpiece, compliments of the artist, Mrs. Cole. (Submitted photo)

Unique presentation -- Mayron Ellis Cole (left) and husband Bill present a keepsake to Marsha Thole of Albuquerque, N.M., who is a descendant of John Fauth. The Coles purchased and restored John Fauth's house dating back to the 1860s, and the John Fauth Guest Cottage was open to visitors during the Winterfest Tour of Historic Homes last week.  During the restoration, an 1899 dime was found behind the mantle which the Coles and Thole are standing in front of. The Coles had the 1899 dime mounted on a necklace and presented it to Thole on Saturday shortly before she helped guide visitors through the cottage. Her mother, Lucretia Thole, also made the trip to Gonzales.  As a child, Lucretia visited the Fauth home often.  Lucretia was raised in the home of Victoria Fauth (Bongard), which is in Bellmead (Waco), Texas.  Victoria Fauth was the fourth child of John and Margareta Fauth.

Restoration under way -- Workmen are busy painting the intricate details of the exterior at the John Fauth House at the corner of St. Peter and St. George streets. An example of steamboat gothic architecture, the house dates back to 1869 and is now owned by Bill and Mayron Cole who reside at the historic Remschel House in Gonzales. When restoration is completed, it will become the John Fauth Guest Cottage sleeping up to eight guests. More information is available on the Internet at http://www.fauthcottage.com/ .
